Keeper Rules

Up to 2 keepers per team. Costs grow 20% each year a player is kept. Here’s the full ruleset — how eligibility, pricing, trades, and conflicts are decided.

Sections 1–3 are mostly computed automatically by the app. Items marked League policyare enforced by the commissioners (Andy & Jon) and aren’t tracked by the app.

1Choosing Your Keepers

1.1

Two keepers per team

Each team can keep up to 2 players.

In the appEnforced when you submit — you can’t save more than 2 selections.

1.2

Roster locks at elimination

The set of players you can keep is fixed the moment you’re eliminated from championship contention. Non-playoff teams’ rosters are set at the end of the regular season; playoff teams’ rosters are set the week they’re knocked out.

In the appEligibility is drawn from a snapshot of your full roster taken at that moment — not your end-of-season roster.

1.3

Submission deadline

Keepers must be submitted to Andy/Jon 24 hours prior to draft start.

2Cost & Duration

2.1

Three-year cap

Players can be kept a maximum of three consecutive years (4 total years including the season they were drafted). This clock resets when a player is made available to be drafted on draft night.

In the appA player kept 3 straight years becomes ineligible for a 4th keep and shows a “3-yr cap” flag. Sending a player back through the auction draft — even if the same owner re-drafts him — resets the counter to zero.

2.2

Keeper cost

Cost to keep a player = Previous Year Base Price × 1.20, always rounded up.

In the appThere’s a $1 minimum keeper cost, applied after the multiplication. A $0 base price yields a $1 keeper (not $2).

2.3

Previous Year Base Price

Base Price is the higher of these two values:

  • (a) Previous year’s draft price
  • (b) FAAB budget used to pick the player up as a free agent (max $15)
In the app — two clarifications
  • If the player was already a keeper last year, his base price is last year’s keeper cost — not his original draft price. This is what makes the 20% compound year over year (e.g. a $10 draftee becomes $12, then $15, then $18).
  • The FAAB figure is the most anyone paid for that player during the season (a player-level number), regardless of which team ended up with him.

3Trades & Conflicts

3.1

Trading keeper rights

Keeper rights can be traded up until 1 week prior to the draft date.

League policyThe app has no trade mechanism; commissioners apply trades manually.

3.2

What keepers can be traded for

Keeper rights may only be traded for other keepers. They cannot be traded for auction draft dollars, draft picks, or anything else.

3.3

Conflicting keeper rights

If multiple owners end up with the right to keep the same player, the owner who would have to pay the most to keep him gets precedence. If the costs are equal, the owner who was eliminated latest wins.

ExampleOwner A misses the playoffs and drops Player X during Playoff Week 1. Owner B picks up Player X for Playoff Week 1 and is then eliminated that same week. Both now hold keeper rights, because Player X was on each of their rosters the week they were eliminated.
In the appConflicts are auto-resolved by this rule, and both owners are flagged for commissioner review before the result is final.

4Roster & League Changes

4.1

Manager replacement

If a manager drops out of the league, their replacement can select keepers from the outgoing manager’s roster.

4.2

League expansion

If the league expands, new teams are given 7.5% extra toward their draft budget.
